Custom Playwriting Service

Finding a play for a specific Drama class or theatre company can be tricky. Perhaps you want something in a particular style or genre or for a specific number of actors? Whatever your needs, I can help!

CONSULTATION

• An initial consultation discussion will occur before commencing the project. This can be via Zoom, over the phone or in person (circumstances permitting)
• In the consultation, you should be able to provide an overview of your general needs for the project (eg genre, cast size, duration etc), and a general idea (if you have one) for the work.
• A consultation online form will be provided prior to the consultation discussion where you can provide initial ideas.

WORKSHOPS and/or LESSON PLANNING (optional)

• Following the consultation meeting, I can come in to work with your class (if in Adelaide and geographically possible) or I can conduct a workshop via Zoom. In this workshop, I will take your group through some initial exploration, ideation and playbuilding activities to inspire the development of the project. These will be tailored to the nature, style and form of the intended work. The in-class workshop attracts an additional cost.
• In addition to the workshop, or in place of a workshop, I can also provide a lesson plan or discuss with you an approach to gathering source material from improvisations and student contributions to inspire the production of the work. There is no additional cost for this support with lesson planning.

DRAFTING AND DEVELOPMENT

• A commission deposit is required before commencement of drafting and development of the script.
• Once you have provided the requirements and any source material from your group and paid the deposit, I will work to produce a draft for your script.
• You can expect a full-length (two act) script within 6 weeks 
• I will provide an electronic copy of the completed script where you may provide comments and feedback. Any edits or redrafting requested within a fortnight (14 days) of the provision of the first draft will be completed at no extra cost.

PERFORMANCE RIGHTS AND LICENSING

• There is no additional cost for performance and licensing of a commissioned original script!
• Your commission fee includes performance and licensing for up to 4 performances of the original work - and you get to stage a world premiere of a play written especially for your group!
• Two complimentary tickets to the performance and/or a video recording of the performance are requested so I can celebrate the success of your work with group and audience!

COPYRIGHT AND OWNERSHIP

• You will have exclusive performance and licensing rights to the production during the rehearsal process and performance season.
• The copyright and ownership of the script remains mine as the playwright after your performance season.
• I will also reserve the right to license the script to other groups and production companies after your premiere of the play.

Deposit: $100 (exclusive of commission fee)

Playwriting Service + optional workshops:

• Short play/scenes (up to 20mins): $50
• One Act Play (30 - 80mins): $300
• Two Act Play (90 - 120mins): $400
• One Act Play + 1 workshop: $450
• One Act Play + 2 workshops: $550
• Two Act Play + 1 workshop: $550
• Two Act Play + 2 workshops: $650
